Numerous Waymo self-governing taxis were vandalized and set on fire Sunday throughout a demonstration versus the U.S. Migration and Customs Enforcement raids in Los Angeles and the Trump administration’s implementation of National Guard into the area.
What the cars were doing there– who sent them, and why– is so far unidentified. Viral videos published to social networks reveal demonstrators climbing up atop the self-driving taxis, smashing windows, and spray-painting the sides of the taxis. A minimum of 5 cars were seriously harmed and set on fire as the demonstration intensified on Sunday night, according to a report by KTLA.
As the electrical cars burned, authorities cautioned that the chemicals in the cars and trucks’ batteries might launch harmful fumes.
While Waymo appeared to downsize its operations in the Los Angeles location on the Waymo app, the business stated it is bewaring with more implementations.
” Waymo is still running in Los Angeles,” a representative informed Decrypt “Nevertheless, out of an abundance of care, offered the current activity, we eliminated cars from Downtown Los Angeles and will not be serving that particular location of LA at the minute.” The representative kept in mind that Waymo did not seem the target of the attacks.
Waymo stated it was dealing with regional authorities in the after-effects of the occurrence. The Los Angeles Authorities Department did not react to Decrypt’s ask for remark.
